71st Independence Day celebrated at St. Joseph’s College

Description: “Freedom in our minds, Faith in our words, And with pride in our hearts, Let’s salute the nation on Independence Day” It was a red letter day in the history of India when the country got her freedom on August 15, 1947. It took hundreds of years for us to come out of abysmal poverty and abomination. This day is celebrated by the Indians all around the world with great enthusiasm. On this day, parades, flag hoisting, ceremonies and cultural events take place on large scale all over the country. It was no different for the St. Joseph’s College family. The Chief Guest Colonel Rajiv Kacker was accompanied to the dais by the Principal Rev. Fr. Roflie D’souza, Vice Principal Rev. Fr. Joseph Sagayanathan, Head master Rev. Fr. Titus Lobo, College Administrator Mr. Aubrey McGowan along with the College Band headed by Khush Prakash. The Mistress of the Ceremonies was Mrs. Divya Raj. In the morning, a plantation drive was conducted by the Commerce Association under the leadership of Mr. N B Lawrence. A Special Prayer was delivered by Miss. A. Simon which was followed by a prayer song by the Junior Section boys. The Chief Guest was presented a bouquet by the Principal Rev. Fr. Rolfie D’Souza and the Vice-Principal Rev. Fr. Joseph Sagayanathan. The Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag which was followed by the national anthem and the parade led by the College Captain Yashasvi Raj. The Chief Guest Colonel Rajiv Kacker has served the Indian army for a couple of decades. He has been a part of various operations including Operation Trident, Operation Kirni, Operation Vijay and Operation Swarajtantra. Besides all of the accolades he has achieved, Colonel Rajiv Kakkar has also been a part of the various counter insurgency operations and has played a major role in successfully conducting the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections. A beautiful P.T. display was showcased by the Junior Section boys along with the national song Vande Matram sung by the Senior Section Choir. The College Head Prefect Vedansh Ojha delivered a speech on behalf of the entire College acknowledging the difficulties many great leaders of this country had faced to achieve its Independence. A special dance was performed by the Junior Section boys which was appreciated by everyone present. The Chief Guest in his speech laid emphasis on the fact that the freedom which we have is not for free and was achieved because of the sacrifices made by many great people including the martyrs. He praised the nation while concluding his speech by saying Jai Hind which echoed in the hallowed portals of the college. The event concluded with the singing of the College Anthem.
