The inaugural day of Josephest 2025, the annual scholastic and cultural symposium hosted by St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, was successfully held on 16th October, 2025. The proceedings gathered a significant contingent of regional educational institutions, including St. John’s Co-ed Naini, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Prayagraj, Bal Bharti School, Prayagraj , Bethany Convent School, Naini, St. Peter's School, Raebareli, St. Joseph's School, Meja, St. Joseph's Girls Wing, Prayagraj, Srinivasa Ramanujan Public School, Prayagraj, St. Mary's Convent Inter College, Prayagraj, St. Joseph's School, Kaushambi, St. John's Academy, Karchana, St. Joseph's School, Naini, and I.P.E.M International School, Prayagraj, alongside the host institution, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj.
The ceremony commenced with the formal welcome of the Chief Guest by Kevin Terry Velluthara and Daksh Abhishikth Lyall. The Chief Guest, Colonel Abhishek Singh, a distinguished officer in the Indian Army and an alumnus of the College, and other Guests of Honour, notably Group Captain Achyut Kumar, also an alumnus; Rev. Fr. Ravi Joseph, Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Kaushambi; and Sr. Lissy CJ, Principal of St. Mary’s Inter College were ushered in. The assembly acknowledged Colonel Singh’s presence and institutional legacy with a sustained, heartfelt standing ovation. The traditional ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed, a symbolic act performed by the Chief Guest, Colonel Abhishek Singh, the Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, the School Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Melwin Pais, the School Administrator, Mr. Aubrey McGowan, the Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube, the School Counsellor, Dr. (Mrs.) Aparna Ranjan, and the College Captain, Arishh Abraaham Alam. This ritual formally marked the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of enlightenment. A solemn devotional sequence, comprising a formal prayer and the college anthem, established the reverent and purposeful tone of the day.
Colonel Singh’s introduction highlighted his illustrious military career and his family’s enduring connection to the College. Following the presentation of floral tributes to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, the students of Divya Jyoti from the St. Joseph's College Girls’ Wing delivered a profoundly moving and exceptional dance-drama performance. The piece served as a powerful critique of prejudice, illustrating the systemic hardships and cruelty faced by specially-abled children, particularly those without sight. The students’ highly coordinated execution, despite their disabilities, articulated an unstated message that disability does not equate to a deficiency in capability or worth.
A stirring PowerPoint Presentation then traced the institutional history of Josephest, leading to the formal introduction of the event’s central theme: PANCHATATVA PANTHEON (The Five Elements). The primary section students contributed to this thematic exposition through a carefully choreographed dance underscoring the five elements, concurrent with the symbolic unveiling of the competition trophy, which was presented as an embodiment of the institution’s core values and guiding principles. The participating schools subsequently marched in disciplined formation, after which all students took a solemn oath to uphold the principles of integrity and competitive excellence. Following the dispersal of teams to their respective venues, a formal draw of lots determined the sequence of events.
The Chief Guest delivered an inspiring and substantive address, expressing deep gratitude for the foundational mentorship provided by his former teachers. Colonel Singh emphasised that the core legacy of friendship and the enduring principle that "great power demands great responsibility" are paramount. He contextualised this ethical framework with examples from his military experience, citing the life-and-death decisions inherent in his role. He specifically referenced the strategic precision of Operation Sindoor (a targeted military action) and the critical logistical execution of major humanitarian missions, such as the recently conducted Operation Raahat (for regional flood relief). He articulated that the military’s recent action was a restrained, targeted "lesson" delivered exclusively to adversaries, demonstrating immense power while making a calculated choice to strike only terrorist targets, thereby reserving greater strategic force for future necessity. He concluded by challenging the student body to pursue excellence and embody these ethical values in all spheres of life. A memento was presented to Colonel Singh in appreciation of his presence and significant contribution. The day concluded with a grand curtain raiser, officially inaugurating Josephest 2025, which stood as a resounding success, affirming the institution’s commitment to student potential, adherence to hallowed tradition, and steadfast unity in an atmosphere of purpose and celebration.
