The CISCE UP Regional Chess Championship 2026 was successfully organised over two days, on August 13 and 14, 2026, at St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj. More than 350 players from over 10 zones across Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Lucknow and Kanpur, participated enthusiastically in the championship.
The championship comprised six categories — Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 for both boys and girls. The players displayed exceptional sporting talent, strategic thinking, concentration, patience and competitive spirit throughout the championship. The top five players in each category qualified for the CISCE Nationals, while those securing sixth and seventh positions were placed on the standby list. Thus, a total of 30 players qualified for the CISCE Nationals, while 12 players were placed on the standby list.
The Chief Guest of the championship was Dr. Ramkrishna Swarnkar, ADG, Lucknow. He addressed the participating players and encouraged them to pursue the sport with regular practice, discipline, confidence and true sportsmanship. His motivational address greatly encouraged and inspired the young participants.
On the concluding day, Reverend Father Walter D’Silva, Principal, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, delivered an inspiring address. He highlighted the importance of chess and its role in developing strategic thinking, concentration, patience and decision-making skills. He motivated the players to continue working hard and to pursue chess with dedication and enthusiasm. He also expressed his happiness over the successful conduct of the championship. He formally brought the championship to a close and expressed his sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests, parents, coaches and participating players for their presence, cooperation and valuable support.

The championship was successfully organised under the leadership of Sports Officer Mr. Shabi Rafique and his organising team. Mr. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi and Mr. Abid Ali provided special support in ensuring the smooth and systematic conduct of the championship.
Chief Arbiter Mr. Hemant Sharma made a significant contribution to the successful conduct of the championship in accordance with the prescribed rules, ensuring that the tournament was conducted fairly and impartially. His efficient guidance and professional management played an important role in the successful completion of the event.
In addition, Mohd. Usman Siddiqui, Mohd. Rashid Siddiqui, Mrs. Shazia Tabassum and Nadira Tabassum provided valuable support in the organisation and smooth conduct of the championship.
The prestigious two-day regional chess championship witnessed enthusiastic participation, discipline and true sporting spirit among the players. The event not only provided young chess players with valuable exposure to high-level competitive chess but also served as an important platform for identifying and nurturing talented players for the CISCE Nationals.
The championship concluded in an enthusiastic and dignified atmosphere. The organising committee expressed its sincere gratitude to all the participating players, coaches, parents, officials and supporters for their cooperation and contribution to the success of the event. The committee extended its best wishes to all the qualified players for their success at the upcoming CISCE Nationals.
