CISCE National-Level Poetry Writing Competition
As part of the CISCE special initiatives commemorating Teachers’ Day 2026, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, hosted the National-Level Poetry Writing Competition on 3 September 2026. The initiative, centred on the theme “Teachers: Architects of Tomorrow,” celebrated the enduring contribution of teachers in shaping young minds and preparing future generations.
Over 90 budding poets from Classes IX to XII participated in the competition, which was conducted in two categories, Category I for Classes IX and X and Category II for Classes XI and XII.
In keeping with the Council’s guidelines, the topic was announced at 9:50 a.m., ahead of the commencement of the competition at 10:00 a.m. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, revealed the topic, “The Nation Begins in a Classroom,” and wished the participants the very best. The young poets were given one hour to weave their thoughts and ideas into poetry.
The entries reflected a range of perspectives, imagination and poetic expression, making the task of the judges particularly challenging. The panel comprised Mrs. C. Wesley, Mrs. L. Terry and Dr. L. S. Gaffney, all senior English teachers of the College. After several hours of careful evaluation and deliberation, the top three entries in each category were finalised.

First: Ahmad Alman Usman (X-D)
Second: Satvat Rai (X-C)
Third: Bhavya Pratap Singh (X-C)
Category II – Classes XI and XII
First: Yasharth Pratap Singh (XI-C)
Second: Animesh Mukherjee (XI-C)
Third: Pragalbh Shukla (XII-F)
The first-position holders, Ahmad Alman Usman and Yasharth Pratap Singh, will now represent the school at the All-India level of the competition.
The winners were felicitated by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, at the special assembly held on Teachers’ Day, in recognition of their literary achievement.
May the verses born in the classroom today find their voice on the national stage tomorrow.
