Civic Sense: Where Small Acts Shape a Better Community
The character of a community is shaped not by grand declarations, but by the small acts through which its members choose to care for it.
What does it truly mean to be a responsible member of a community? Is civic sense found only in grand gestures, or does it begin with the seemingly insignificant choices we make every day? These questions formed the heart of the morning assembly presented by Class 11-E, centred around the theme “Civic Sense: Small Acts, Big Impact.”
The assembly commenced with a thoughtful introduction by the class teacher, Mrs. Lim Terry, who established the significance of the theme and encouraged students to look beyond civic sense as merely a set of rules. Dhairya Sinah then led the school in prayer, the pledge and the prayer song, creating an atmosphere of collective participation and reflection. Vedant Singh introduced the central theme before inviting Aaditya Nandan to deliver the principal address. His speech explored how even ordinary actions extend beyond ourselves and influence the people and spaces we share.
The message was brought to life through a carefully crafted three-dimensional model of the school, created by Arnav Shukla, with assistance from Paarth Alrani and Praise Ransom. Introduced by Rishi Sharma as a representation of Class 11-E’s pledge towards a better nation and society, the model presented an ideal vision of the school, including its premises, the Principal’s office and students engaged in maintaining cleanliness. More than a display, it served as a visual reminder that preserving our surroundings cannot be the responsibility of a select few, but must become a shared commitment. Aaditya Nandan then invited the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, to unveil the model, which was met with appreciation and warm applause.
The assembly concluded with Mrs. Lim Terry expressing her pride in the students and recognising their cooperation and initiative. Curtis then delivered the Thought for the Day, before the gathering rose for the National Anthem.
The assembly offered a timely reminder that civic sense is not simply knowing what is right, but choosing to do it consistently.
