Recognising the importance of creating awareness among young people about emerging health concerns, St Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, regularly endeavours to organise meaningful awareness programmes that complement academic learning and promote the holistic well-being of its students. In keeping with this approach, an educational seminar on “Childhood Obesity and Diabetes” was organised at the school on 5 October 2026 to sensitise students to these important health concerns. With changing lifestyles, sedentary habits, increased screen time, and unhealthy dietary choices becoming increasingly common among children and adolescents, timely awareness and preventive education are particularly relevant. Around 300 students participated in the informative and interactive session. The seminar was graced by distinguished doctors—Prof. Sarita Bajaj, Dr. Shivanjali Kumar Chaturvedi, Dr. Vibhu Ranjan Khare, Dr. Smriti Singh, and Dr. Siddharth Madnani—who shared valuable insights into childhood obesity and diabetes. The guests were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, who presented them with bouquets. The programme was compered by Mrs. Darshana Madnani. The doctors explained the relationship between obesity and diabetes and discussed Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The students were informed about the symptoms, causes, risk factors, and preventive measures associated with these conditions in a simple and comprehensive manner. Emphasis was laid on healthy eating habits, regular physical activity, and making responsible lifestyle choices. The seminar was particularly relevant for students as healthy habits developed during childhood and adolescence can influence their long-term health and well-being. The session encouraged students to recognise the importance of making informed and responsible choices at an early age. To make the session more engaging and to assess the students’ learning, Dr. Siddharth Madnani conducted an interactive quiz at the end of the seminar. The enthusiastic participation of the students made the programme both informative and engaging, leaving them with a clearer understanding of the importance of healthy living.
