On 26 January 2026, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great dignity, patriotic fervour, and enthusiastic participation. The solemn and vibrant ceremony reflected the true spirit of democracy and national pride.
The programme commenced with the welcome of the honoured guests. The proceedings were efficiently conducted by the College Vice Head Marshal, Shaurya Goswami. The formal inauguration took place with a Bible reading and prayer by Ms Priyansha Simon, followed by a melodious prayer hymn presented by the School Choir, setting a reverent tone for the occasion.
Subsequently, Ms M. Paul introduced the Chief Guest, Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha (Retd.), a distinguished alumnus of the 1976 batch of St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj. His inspiring journey from the Merchant Navy to the Indian Navy stands as a shining example of discipline, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the nation. After the introduction, he was honoured with the presentation of a sapling as a mark of respect.
Thereafter, Ms Srijita Chatterjee introduced the Guest of Honour, Mr Rajeev Bhadauria, also a proud alumnus of the 1976 batch. With over 35 years of rich professional experience in the energy, infrastructure, and steel sectors, he has served prestigious organisations such as NTPC, Reliance Power, and Jindal Steel. His vast experience, strong values, and disciplined approach make him a true source of inspiration for the present generation of students. The Principal, Rev. Fr Walter D’Silva, honoured him with a sapling and a memento, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries present.
The most awaited moment of the programme was the hoisting of the National Flag. This sacred act was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, filling the atmosphere with pride and reverence. A well-coordinated March Past, symbolising discipline and unity, followed. A special highlight was the participation of the 1976 Golden Jubilee alumni, who, along with the current students, marched smartly and saluted the Chief Guest with impeccable synchronisation.
The celebration continued with delightful cultural performances by the KG section, whose colourful and patriotic presentations captivated the audience and won hearts. This was followed by a stirring patriotic group song, “Ae Watan, Ae Watan”, rendered by the College Choir, which deeply moved everyone present.
In his inspiring address, the Principal emphasised the values enshrined in the Constitution, urging students to uphold a strong sense of duty, responsibility, and commitment towards nation-building. The Chief Guest, in his address, highlighted the historical significance of Republic Day and encouraged students to become aware, responsible, and sensitive citizens of India.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mohammed Umar Mukhtar, followed by the College Anthem, which brought the ceremony to a dignified and memorable close. Thus, the 77th Republic Day celebration was successfully conducted, echoing the ideals of discipline, patriotism, and national pride.
